CASA of Oregon

CASA of Oregon helps local direct-service organizations improve the lives of Oregonians, particularly in the rural areas of the state. We are organizers, advocates and development consultants focused on building hope, homes, and financial health for those in need.

Here's the truth.

Many farmworkers and other low-income families in Oregon are on the edge - living outdoors, in vehicles or in abandoned buildings. They face high unemployment, overwhelming financial pressures, and little or no access to education and resources.

Our mission

Deeply rooted in service to farmworkers, CASA of Oregon improves the lives of Oregonians in underserved communities by building affordable housing, neighborhood facilities, and programs that increase families' financial well-being.

Our vision

People empowered with the building blocks for a better life.

History

Community And Shelter Assistance Corporation (CASA of Oregon) was established in 1988, in response to the housing needs of Oregon farmworkers and their families.  Since its inception, CASA of Oregon has worked primarily through local community organizations and housing sponsors to develop housing and to assist in improving the overall quality of life for farmworkers and their families.

A statewide organization, CASA of Oregon is organized as a private non-profit community development corporation and has charitable tax exempt status under Section 501 (c) 3 of the IRS Code.  CASA of Oregon specializes in developing housing and related facilities for farmworkers. CASA of Oregon is a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) as well as the administrator of the Valley Individual Development Account program (VIDA).  VIDA is the largest IDA program in Oregon, constituting a collaboration of 19 CDCs, Housing Authorities and non-profit organizations that serve low income families throughout the state.   A volunteer Board of Directors provides leadership and direction.  CASA of Oregon has completed over 1,000 housing units throughout the State of Oregon.
